10 Star Trek Characters Who MUST Return

8. Sela

The half-Romulan Commander Sela is perfectly poised to return in Star Trek: Picard. The exploration of the events that led to the supernova and the political uncertainty around the evacuation is still far from resolved.

Denise Crosby is as much a part of Star Trek as any of the other notable Next Generation guest stars, with Tasha Yar being one of the greatest missed opportunities that the show offered. Only behind the scenes nonsense prevented her from being in as many episodes as Brent Spiner or Jonathan Frakes, so she would make the perfect case for a return in Picard.

The Romulans that the audience has encountered so far in the show have either been covert officers, loyal gardeners or other generally underwritten characters. Sela already comes with a backstory, as the child of an alternate-Yar, who attempted to orchestrate the forced reunification of Romulus and Vulcan. Though she would undoubtedly be less than trustworthy, she would also be a strong voice for the eventual formation of the Ni'Var state on Vulcan. Commodore Oh, with respect, was a poor substitute for a Tal Shiar leader. Commander Sela would be the perfect choice to take over Romulan security.
