10 Stunning Moments From Breaking Bad

5. Walt Literally Blows Gus€™s Face Off €“ Season 4, Episode 13 €œFace Off€

Gilligan and company must have had a good chuckle at the title of the Season 4 finale, as no fan of Breaking Bad could be faulted for not understanding the quite literal implication of the term €œFace Off€. The season long chess match of Walt and his fiery arrogance versus Gus and his calculating precaution ends in fireworks. Literally. As season finales go, this one is for the record books. Gus is the greatest villain in the world of Breaking Bad and by far the most formidable foe our scheming Walter White faces. For 12 episodes, viewers watched Walt struggle to best his adversary, only to be outwitted at every turn. It takes a Hail Mary plea to Hector Salamanca, who hates Gus even more than he hates Walt, for White to prevail. And even then, for just a moment as Gus strides out of the nursing home room of Salamanca and adjusts his tie, Gilligan allows the viewers to believe that somehow Gus survived the bomb exploding from less than five feet away before providing the jaw-dropping titular shot.
