In this circumstance, we don't need to look for subtext in the show's scripts. The show's creator went on the record to air his distaste for his audience.

For those seasoned tv watchers, you will remember the transitional period television went through not so long ago when serial tv started moving over to streaming and on-demand. Back then, most showrunners, writers and cast members that worked on network television begrudged streaming. We see it time and time again when technology advances, people are hesitant to accept the new because they believe the old ways are the best, most authentic ways. So when ratings started to dip for traditional shows, most of the teams working on them felt bitter and angry towards streaming.

Well, that was not the case for Heroes showrunner Tim Kring.

Kring was infamously quoted at an event that he thought the fans that watched his show in real-time were: 'saps and dipsh*ts'. Of course, this did not go down well. Heroes had been in hot water for some time at this point, with crashing ratings and incomprehensible storylines. But this was the nail in the coffin for the show and led it to its inevitable demise.
