10 Terrible CGI Moments In Big Budget TV Shows
4. Star Trek: The Next Generation - Chestburster
In a franchise as iconic as Star Trek, you'd expect the visual effects to be top notch.
Although the Original series has not aged well, its effects were groundbreaking at the time, and every new iteration makes use of the advancements in CGI and visual effects.
That said, there are more than a few moments where Gene Roddenberry's beloved sci-fi behemoth throws in some truly abysmal CGI.
The worst offender of all comes in the first season of The Next Generation, in the episode 'Conspiracy'.
Faced with the strange behaviour of Starfleet officers later discovered to be possessed by parasitic aliens, the episode is remarkably un-Trek-like, featuring Cronenberg-esque body horror with effects so bad you'd swear you'd wandered into an '80s B-movie.
The episode is notorious for being one of Star Trek's worst CGI moments, and it even makes some of the effects used in the Original Series seem convincing.
If you've ever wanted to see an incredibly poor imitation of Alien's chestburster scene, then look no further. Just don't expect to feel scared. Or feel anything, come to think of it.
