10 Terrible CGI Moments In Big Budget TV Shows
3. Doctor Who - Lazarus' Experiment
Doctor Who has been running for an awfully long time.
The effects used in the show's original run were so over-the-top bad that it adds a certain level of charm to proceedings, and the revived series hasn't gone to any lengths to remedy that reputation.
Of course, there have been good effects, like the Silence's oversized skull-heads, but for every convincing monster there's another three that make the audience laugh out loud.
Possibly the series' worst - although it's a matter for much debate - visual effect comes in the episode "The Lazarus Experiment", in which long-time Doctor Who writer Mark Gatiss played Professor Richard Lazarus.
As the name might suggest, Lazarus' titular experiment involves rejuvenating himself, and it works, turning him from a decrepit old scientist into his charming younger self.
The problem is, Lazarus then mutates into a giant scorpion-like monster intent on draining humans of life in order to renew itself.
The main issue with Lazarus' mutated form is that it just looks so incredibly bad. Whereas many of the show's monsters and aliens mostly make use of practical effects, Lazarus was rendered entirely in CGI that looked so awful it was impossible to feel any sense of impending doom while the giant scorpion-man sucked people's life away.
