8. Entourage
Entourage quickly became one of my favourite TV shows when I started watching. The foul mouthed, pugnacious Ari Gold, played by Jeremy Piven, is one of the greatest characters to ever come out of television. The show focuses on the trials and tribulations of actor Vincent Chase, played by Adrian Grenier. The relationship between him and his three best friends acts as the centre of this TV show. However, the show undoubtedly hits its peak once Pivens Ari gets given some breathing room. In the pilot, he largely floats around in the background, coming to the fore whenever called on by one of the other starring characters. The show recognises that its an ensemble cast, with no leading actor. For awards submissions, everyone is submitted as a supporting actor. But in this pilot, Pivens character is barely that. The show spends too much time establishing context and the relationship between Chase and his entourage, that Piven is a spare part, which as you later find out, is a huge crime.
