10 Terrible TV Pilots That Led To Otherwise Great Shows

7. Great Night Out

I understand that Great Night Out has only aired one season of six episodes, but its pilot was undoubtedly its worst episode. It€™s predictable, a bit over the top and largely plods along. The characters are all shells of outdated stereotypes that aren€™t given room to breathe or establish any sense of chemistry that comes across as authentic to a viewer. But, as the series progresses, the characters are explored and you start to care about whether or not Glyn, played by Craig Parkinson, gets the girl or whether Daz, Stephen Walters, actually manages to mature a little bit. And it becomes funny, which for a comedy, is rather important. It€™s still a bit predictable in places, but not as much as the pilot, where I found myself coming up with alternatives which would€™ve made for a more exciting episode. I won't lie, I nearly switched off after this episode, but I'm glad I didn't. It's one of those series that you can't judge on the pilot. Whereas many TV shows can stumble along rather inoffensively that you're still encouraged to watch the next episode, this pilot episode is rather cringe worthy and undoubtedly the worst episode in the series. But give it a chance. It's not that bad.
