10 Terrifying Anime Villains That Gave You Nightmares

Smiles are supposed to be a comforting sign of endearment. There is nothing comforting or endearing about the smile on this things face.

Even if it wasn't the Titan responsible for breaking down the wall, in a way it could be said that The Smiling Titan is the one that started it all. By making a messy meal out of protagonist Eren Yeagers mother as he watched helplessly, this freak among freaks kicked off his hate-fulled mission to commit full-on Titan genocide... and possibly even regular, people genocide later on.

It could easily be argued that The Smiling Titan isn't necessarily a villain and is nothing more than just another flesh-devouring drone. However, the influence it had on poor young Eren is enough to shoot it up to villain level.

Ignoring that influence for a bit, just take a look at its face. That smile has become an iconic image since the series first premiered in 2013. The only word that comes to mind to describe those huge pearly whites and that creepy I-see-you-there look in its eyes is terrifying. This thing is just flat out terrifying.

Titan's are said to be mindless monsters with no emotion, yet it's hard to shake that feeling that The Smiling Titan is enjoying itself. It could very well likely be that it ate Eren's mom in front of him not because of some biological directive, but because it found it to be funny.

A sick joke in the most literal of terms.
