10 Terrifying Doctor Who Monsters That Had Us Hiding Behind The Sofa

3. The Flood - The Waters Of Mars

The Flood are a triumph - one of the best original monsters in NuWho, with a killer design and a significantly high threat level, all bolstered by dropping them into one of if not the best episode of the RTD era: The Waters Of Mars.

The prosthetics team have to be applauded here. From the subtle cracked skin and white contacts to the trickling water from both the mouth and sleeves, this relatively simple design results in some of the most haunting visuals in NuWho.

But the make-up isn’t what earns The Flood the number three spot on this list - what truly makes The Flood such a terrifying presence is how easily they can dispatch and convert their victims. Contact with a single drop of water is enough to send the crew of Bowie Base One into convulsions as they are converted into The Flood’s ranks. This is near impossible to escape when the monsters in question can shoot jets of water from (presumably) every orifice, and it’s clear to see that, without The Doctor’s intervention, the crew in this episode were dead from the moment this viral infection reared its ugly head.

Man, we need these guys back…
