The anthology style of story-telling throughout its run of 12 seasons and counting has made American Horror Story unique. At least to begin with, many of the same cast would return each season to portray different characters in a completely different story, however, these seemingly separate narratives have started to bleed into each other.

There have been easter eggs relating to other seasons found, certain characters have made cameo appearances, and in season eight, Apocalypse, the likes of Murder House, Coven, and Hotel were brought together into one storyline and shared universe.

Even before Madison Montgomery (Emma Roberts) was sent to the Murder House, a connection between the former celebrity turned witch and the house that forbade those who died there to leave had been forged, it's just that no attention was ever drawn to it. The man who built the Murder House was Charles Montgomery (Matt Ross), a surgeon who began experimenting with stitching pieces of different animals together, before bringing his son back to life in a similar way with the heart of one of his patients.

Several decades later, there was not just the shared surname that connected Madison and Charles Montgomery, but the fact that she too had resurrected someone from the dead in Evan Peters' Kyle Spencer to become something of a Frankenstein's monster. This connection may even be the reason Madison was the one chosen to pay a visit to the Murder House during the Apocalypse.
