When The Haunting of Hill House was released back in 2018, it took the world by storm. It seemed that everyone turned to Netflix to watch Mike Flanagan's show, and to say that it was truly creepy would be a huge understatement.

Arguably one of the best episodes was the sixth chapter of the story, built around impressive, and often seemingly impossible one-shots that produced the kind of tension that audiences simply couldn't turn away from. Due to just how much was going on throughout the episode, the opportunity was taken to slip some subtle aspects into the background that were truly terrifying.

When Olivia (Carla Gugino) was looking around the house for Nell (Violet McGraw), her missing daughter, she walked by the same statues in a corridor twice. Initially facing forward, when the character walked past again just moments later, the stone vigil had moved its head to follow her. It's incredibly subtle, but jarring once seen.

Of course, there was more than enough in The Haunting of Hill House to keep even the most desensitised up at night, but it was made so much worse by adding in small, barely noticeable details like this, driving home just how haunted that creepy house was.
