Humans are often the most frightening monsters of them all, and when a TV show like Supernatural takes a turn in this direction it often makes for the most frightening results.

When Sam and Dean head to Minnesota to investigate a disappearance, they immediately believe that the one doing the killing is something supernatural. However, the tale takes a grislier turn when they discover that the ones doing the kidnapping are in fact a group of humans. Specifically, they're a family called The Benders, hunting humans in a sick game.

This idea of the villains being human plays on the fear of the ordinary, something that a film like Deliverance or a game such as Resident Evil 7 plays on. The idea of a group of sick individuals who could very much exist in out real world. This makes The Benders one of the more frightening of Supernatural villains because they simply aren’t supernatural at all.
