10 Theories For The Final Season Of Game Of Thrones
2. Jon Is The Prince That Was Promised
Melisandre seems on good enough terms with the Lord Of Light to know how she will die (and willingly die for the cause), but he hasn’t been overly clear with her on this issue.
She initially believed Stannis was the Prince That Was Promised, then turned her energy to Jon after Stannis fell to Ramsay’s army. She’s able to bring him back to life, but this isn’t the cast iron proof some believe it is. After all, Thoros Of Myr is able to bring Baeric back far more often than Jon; Beric has a literal flaming sword that fits the Lightbringer prophecy too.
However, there are reasons to believe it is Jon. Inescapably, he’s a main character; the Prince That Was Promised isn’t going to be Derek from Fleabottom who shows up for the first time in Season 8.
More than that though, he’s part of a literal promise between Ned and Lyanna, one that has shaped the future of Westeros. As half Stark and half Targaryen, she’s made of ice and fire too. Arthur Dayne, a man whose sword was formed from the heart of a dying star, dies as Jon is born too, fulfilling predictions of a red star.
