10 Things About October Faction That Make Absolutely No Sense
6. What The Hell’s Going On With Maggie Allen?
Allen family matriarch Maggie Allen’s motivations are weird as hell. She’s left Fred's father Samuel because he’s a horrible old b*stard, clearly dislikes her son, hates her daughter-in-law, and has no idea that her grandchildren aren’t actually her grandchildren... so, in the season finale, why is Deloris so convinced that when Maggie takes over Presidio she’ll be so invested in protecting them all?
Come to that, how does Deloris know that Maggie’s anywhere close to being second-in-line behind Edith Mooreland for head of Presidio's council? By her own admission Maggie was a career Presidio wife, not an agent, and Deloris has no idea that Edith has offered Maggie her husband’s seat on the council.
Wendy Crewson’s casting is a bizarre choice, too - she’s great in the role of withering ball-buster Maggie, but at 63 is only 14 years older than J.C. MacKenzie (Fred) and Tamara Taylor (Deloris), both of whom are playing characters their own age. To make matters worse, the ultra-glamorous Crewson looks younger than she actually is, while silver fox MacKenzie looks older than he actually is, meaning that in the early episodes, Maggie and her son look the same age.
They even sling a throwaway line of dialogue in there in reference to how young she looks, which is an indication that they only realised the problem once she was on set - hence the white wig Crewson wears in later episodes. They’ve realised how weird it looks and they’re trying to age her up. Was the casting director asleep when they hired her?
