10 Things Doctor Who Fans Can Thank Steven Moffat For
7. He Made The Show A Fairytale
As showrunner, Steven Moffat's first order of business was to transform Doctor Who into a fairytale. He made the Doctor into a Peter Pan figure - an eternally young man, an imaginary friend that would appear in front of your window and then encourage you to hold on to the child within us, whisking you away to amazing worlds and dropping you off in time for bed. The inside of his TARDIS even looks like a whimsically impossible playground. It's all there. The Pandorica is Doctor Who's unique spin on the Pandora's Box story. The cracks in time look like something out of a fantasy movie. Even every Christmas special Moffat has made has a fantasy fairytale theme to it, whether it's Dickens or Narnia. What's brilliant about it is that it complements the show's aesthetics perfectly because it's been staring at us right in the face from the very beginning. What Moffat did was take it to next level with his charming ideas. The Doctor has always been a mysterious Willy Wonka-esque character so it's amazing no one has ever highlighted its fairytale qualities before. Heck, even the title of the show screams children's storybook.
Once upon a time, Jon ended up in a huge dark room with a giant screen... and he never left.
