10 Things Doctor Who Fans Can Thank Steven Moffat For

3. He Takes Full Advantage Of The Show's Time Travel Element

Doctor Who has always been about travelling through time to visit significant events in our world's history or taking a unique look at what will happen to humanity in the near or far future, and sometimes, if fans are really, really good, they are treated to a story featuring multiple Doctors. When Steven Moffat joined the proceedings, that's when it all got really wibbly-wobbly. Steven Moffat loves to experiment with the concept of time travel and he always does it in a way which ultimately enhances the narrative. Viewers first got a glimpse of this in The Girl in the Fireplace in Series 2 in which the Doctor witnessed a historical figure's entire life, from childhood to death, after robots from the future made a whole in the universe to get to the past (and sentences such as that are why people love the show). In Moffat's next story, the immensely popular Blink, the Weeping Angels send their victims back into the past to feed off the energy of their days that could've been. In addition, the Doctor leaves an array of Easter Eggs on DVDs that would ultimately turn out to form the foundations of a conversation in the present. Then there's River Song, of course, who suddenly introduced herself in the present as someone from the Doctor's personal future. Timey-wimey, indeed. Still with us? Good! Once Steven Moffat became showrunner, complicated time travelling plots become one of the show's staples and ultimately one which was met with a mixed response from its fans. Steven's creativity when it comes to taking advantage of the show's unique storytelling device, though, is nothing but admirable. It's certainly something that makes Doctor Who different from all the other shows out there, and Doctor Who should never waste any opportunity to make itself different.
