10 Things Doctor Who Wants You To Forget

4. Guns Are Bad, Except When They're Not

When Doctor Who came roaring back in 2005, showrunner Russell T Davies made it very clear that his version of the Time Lord hated guns.

That was his whole MO - he got things done without resorting to violence or weapons. Compared to, say, the Third Doctor, who karate-kicked anything that looked at him funny.

The only problem with this pacifist angle is that the Doctor's history is littered with the use of guns.

The Third Doctor shot an Ogron in Day of the Daleks, the Fourth Doctor shot a giant rat in The Talons of Weng-Chiang, and the Fifth Doctor blasted a member of his own species, Omega, in Arc of Infinity.

There are tons more examples too, including plenty from the modern series.

The Tenth Doctor threatened the Master and Rassilon with a gun in The End of Time, the Eleventh Doctor almost shot Kahler-Jex in A Town Called Mercy, and the Twelfth Doctor straight-up murdered the General in Hell Bent.

Maybe we should start calling them "The Oncoming Hypocrite" instead.
