The next big announcement will likely be who'll be joining Ncuti Gatwa's 14th Doctor in the TARDIS in 2023. Now that the new Doctor is safely ensconced, fans will turn their attention to the casting of the next companion. It's a foregone conclusion that Dan and Yaz won't be continuing past the Centenary Special, and the casting of Ncuti Gatwa suggests a soft reboot aimed at the Neflix generation.
The production team will be looking for someone similar to portray the companion, perhaps aiming for those perceived glory days of David Tennant and Billie Piper. Gatwa's fellow Sex Education star Tanya Reynolds was rumoured to be in the running for the companion role, but this may have been one of RTD's misdirections. Or it could even have been a garbled leak of the Ncuti Gatwa announcement.
Whoever it will be, they'll likely not be announced until after Jodie Whittaker regenerates and Mandip Gill and John Bishop leave the TARDIS. Russell said that he and Ncuti would now disappear until 2023. Unless he was lying...
