10 Things Everyone Gets Wrong About Game Of Thrones
1. The Lannisters Are Still The Greatest Military Force In Westeros
Something that wasn't explored enough in the show is just how good a leader Robb Stark was. During the events of the first two seasons, Robb Stark outplayed the Lannister forces at every turn, winning every single battle. This, combined with the bloody Battle of the Blackwater resulted in the deaths or desertion of a very high percentage of Lannister soldiers. The Lannisters may currently appear to be in a fairly good position. However, the War of the Five Kings was catastrophic for them with regards to troop losses, and the house has only survived so far due to underhanded plots, shaky alliances and the unappreciated genius of a certain dwarf. House Lannister is almost totally reliant on their alliance with the Tyrells at this point, which is why Tywin is doing everything in his power to keep the houses together, despite their obvious distaste for each other. Because the Tyrell army has avoided all conflicts except the eradication of Stannis' forces at Blackwater, they are currently in command of one of the largest unified forces in Westeros. As such, the Lannisters simply cannot afford to lose them as allies. And, judging from a recent conspiracy plot involving the poisoning of everyone's favourite boy king, the Lannister-Tyrell alliance might not be as solid as Tywin hopes. And that's before he goes to the privy.
