10 Things Everyone Hates About Modern TV

7. Spoiler Culture Is Out Of Control

There a few things more annoying about modern pop-culture discourse than "spoiler culture" - and it absolutely cuts both ways.

It's extremely frustrating to go on social media and be bombarded with high-def screengrabs and GIFs of major moments from TV shows mere minutes after they've finished airing. Even prominent, respected news outlets will often include major spoilers in their article titles without a thought in the world.

Basically, if you don't watch a show as soon as it airs or shortly thereafter, the only sensible solution is to stay off social media until you've seen it. But in a world where people may need to use social media for their work, is that really practical?

This is one side of the argument, the other being that our obsession with preserving spoilers and "spoiler-phobia" can risk eroding meaningful debate about the media we watch, its nuances boiled down to a bullet-point list of all the major plot happenings.

After all, spoilers only mean so much without the context of their execution, but at the same time, you can't really blame people for being pissed off because one of their Facebook friends posted a spoilerific WandaVision meme within hours of a new episode airing.

The lesson here? Your oh-so-clever thoughts about a new episode aren't more important than somebody else's spoiler-free experience, but at the same time, spoilers really shouldn't bother you as much as they probably do.
