The pilot apparently sets the foundation for a long-lasting partnership between Liv and John, which definitely feels a little like the Hellboy partnership between Big Red and the almost coincidentally named Liz Sherman, as well as the dynamic between Constantine and Rachel Weisz's character in the 2005 film. Liv will become "our conduit to John's world of rituals, pendants, black magic" and having learned that there is a world beyond ours, she wants to use her knowledge to help others. With John not exactly being known for his overt heroism, it's unlikely he's going to be an immediately willing participant. And could there be romance? Constantine has had any number of girlfriends (and indeed boyfriends) in the comics world, and there's a suggestion that he's going to have a vacancy for one very quickly in the pilot. Amy Lynn Tuttle will play Emma - a character with the same name as the girlfriend that Constantine loses when she is murdered by the BrujerÃa cult in the comics - and the really interesting thing about her casting, and the familiarity of the name is that Tuttle is a stunt-performer and Cirque Du Soleil performer by trade. We're unlikely to see her fleshing out a character, given her background, so there's a very strong possibility that Emma is going to bite the dust at some point during the pilot, adding to Constantine's scars (or establishing his promiscuity at least) - if she is going to be playing a version of Emma from the comics. Again intriguingly, Tuttle's background suggests lots of potential for some possession acrobatics, which may be how we are introduced to her. Fingers and toes crossed for this one. If the pilot turns out not to be terrible, we can expect to see a full series screening in the autumn. Are you excited by the prospect of Constantine? Share your thoughts below in the comments thread.
