10 Things You Need To Know About The Constantine Reboot

7. He Has The Attitude

Constantine's chief appeal comes in the shape of his immediately irresistible attitude and his gloriously off-kilter sense of morality. He has always been styled as a compassionate humanist - hence the demons he struggles with - who struggles to overcome the contrasting pulls of Heaven and Hell, and crucially, he is not a hero. Though he does align himself with heroism, thanks to his actions, he is far from typically heroic: he is a foul-mouthed, disillusioned, and cynical anti-hero with thrill-seeking undertones and magical leanings. And that's exactly why he is such an enduring character. The pilot, thankfully, will draw on the same character make-up. This version of Constantine is a clever wise-ass who deals with the demons of his past with humour, like Chandler from Friends, sort of. The also carries business cards that read: "Exorcist, Demonologist and Master of the Dark Arts," but admits that they should instead read "petty dabbler" because he hates to make such bold claims, which doesn't quite fit with the comics' representation of his sarcasm.
