10 Things You Need To Know About The Constantine Reboot

6. Constantine Has An Angel Handler

The show has had four characters announced, including Constantine himself, and the second, and probably the most intriguing is Manny, an angel handler type, played by Lost's Harold Perrineau, who has been assigned to ease his soul into damnation, and likely to keep an eye on him for God. So far, that's all we have on Manny, but you can dig a little deeper and assume that that assignment is the product of one of two moments in the source material. Either we're going to be introduced to the backstory of John having contracted terminal lung cancer, and tricking the Lords Of Hell into curing him, rather than having to fight over his soul, which lead to Satan promising unprecedented torture and damnation on him, or we're going to learn of the time Constantine literally tricked God. So either Manny is there to help Constantine with his inevitable descent to Hell, which sounds curiously unfitting, given that Constantine's relationship with God is hardly that affectionate, or Manny is there to make sure he doesn't use his considerable powers (no matter what he says about being a Master of the Dark Arts, he's one of the most powerful sorcerors in existence, and the world's greatest con man) to make a fool of God as he did in Hellblazer Issue 128 when he blackmailed God into saving his soul by claiming that if he went to Hell he would take over, and give rise to a Hell on Earth.
