10 Things New Star Trek TV Show Must Have

10. The Right Time

I'm not suggesting that everyone goes and gets fitted with a Breitling watch but the setting for the show will make or break the concept. I see there being three realistic possibilities here for the record.

The first takes us into the "current" reboot timeline and runs parallel as a contemporary series set elsewhere in the galaxy because, let's face it, the movie cast are going to be way too expensive for a 13 part TV series for the next seven years.

The second is that we go back to the Prime Universe and skip forward past the end of Voyager and Star Trek Nemesis for something completely new and fresh away from The Next Generation timeframe. Mind, this will play havoc with getting Star Trek Online's continuity and will certainly push that into its own parallel universe.

Orci's third option is to blast forward in the Reboot universe and do his own The Next Generation or whatever it could be called. My opinion? He'll go with the first option and that's key to the continued existence of the show. Setting it in the 23rd Century recreated by JJ Abrams will keep that movie-going audience they've worked to build. It's the obvious move and would allow for a lot more tie-ins, movie crew cameos as well as the TV crew to drop in on the Enterprise once in a while to bolster those cinema ticket sales.

A Star Trek fan from birth, I love to dive into every aspect of the franchise in front and behind the screen. There's something here that's kept me interested for the best part of four decades! Now I'm getting back into writing and using Star Trek as my first line of literary attack. If I'm not here on WhatCulture then you're more than welcome to come and take a look at my blog, Some Kind of Star Trek at http://SKoST.co.uk or maybe follow me on Twitter as @TheWarpCore. Sometimes I force myself not to talk about Star Trek.
