10 Things Non-Fans Don't Understand About Buffy The Vampire Slayer

4. Some Episodes Are Very Experimental (But In A Good Way)

When it comes to Buffy the Vampire Slayer, sometimes the writers just throw the rule book out the window.

‘Once More, With Feeling’ – the musical episode – is the most obvious example. And far from being a disappointment, it’s considered by many to be the best part of Season 6. In fact, some people even rank ‘Once More, With Feeling’ as the greatest Buffy episode of all time.

‘Hush’ – the episode where nobody speaks for most of the story – is another case of the show going completely left field. Whedon wrote this episode in response to those who thought Buffy relied too much on its unique dialogue. Once again, this experimental episode turned out to be a television classic.

Whilst these two episodes are the most obvious examples of the show’s experimentation, there are plenty of others. ‘The Zeppo’, ‘Superstar’, ‘Restless’, ‘Normal Again’, and ‘Storyteller’ all take the audience on a journey they could never have anticipated.
