10 Things Non-Fans Don't Understand About Buffy The Vampire Slayer

3. A Lot Of The Villains Aren’t Vampires

Another drawback of the show’s title is that many people assume all the villains are vampires. In reality, there are a huge variety of villains, also known as demons.

In Season 1 alone, Buffy has to face a witch, a giant insect, hyenas, a killer-robot, a puppet, and an invisible psycho in addition to the vampires. And the number of foes only increases with each passing season.

Given Buffy’s adventures are heavily inspired by the horror genre, there are several villains you’d expect to see. Ghosts, werewolves, zombies, and sorcerers all make appearances during the show.

But some of the demons are much more unique. Gnarl – a goblin-like creature who eats human flesh – is truly terrifying. And no one will ever forget the Gentlemen from Season 4.

Though some of Buffy’s monster-of-the-week villains are a little forgettable, most of them are so good it’s a shame they only appear in one episode.
