9. The Doctor Makes A Great Subject For Bedtime Stories
While your children still want a story at bedtime make the most of it. Take the opportunity to cast them as the star of their very own Doctor Who episode. Its easier than you think. Start with Junior on the way to school, in the playground or playing in the back garden. Include pets, favourite dolls or friends as desired. Then tell them how the TARDIS appears (with sound effects, of course!) and their favourite Doctor steps out. He asks them if they want to go on an adventure. From then on they are hooked. Visit a fantastic planet with cuddly animals and weird aliens. Make it fun but never forget that every tale needs conflict. The friendly aliens have a problem, or a famous baddy appears with nefarious purpose. The Doctor is trapped and no one can help. But then your nipper finds the lost sonic screwdriver and saves the day. After all, they just have to point and think... In the best endings, the Doctor brings them back home just moments after they left. The teachers, parents and grown-ups never even know the children have been away. Try it. You may find that you enjoy bedtime stories as much as they do.
