10 Things That Must NEVER Happen In Doctor Who

8. The Doctor Is A God

Doctor Who has flirted with the idea of revealing that our protagonist is some all-powerful godlike being, but has always pulled back from the brink. 1980s script editor Andrew Cartmel had always intended to reveal that the Doctor was something "more" than a Time Lord, but the show was cancelled before this could be developed further.

Decades later, Chris Chibnall revealed that the Timeless Child had provided the genetic building blocks that built the Time Lords. While that revelation gave the Doctor an uncomfortably high level of mythical importance, it still, thankfully, didn't turn them into a god.

If the Doctor was revealed to be some all-powerful deity, it would ruin our relationship with the character. Nobody can relate to Superman, but they can get onboard with the shy, secretive everyman Clark Kent. The Doctor has always been Clark Kent, but has very rarely been Superman.

Yes, the Doctor is an eternal being, wandering the cosmos and answering the prayers of those in need. However, the Doctor has always done that out of the goodness of their hearts. That's why Peter Capaldi's "idiot with a box" who helps people "because it's kind" resonates with viewers.

Plus, gods are boring – that's why the Doctor ran away from Gallifrey in the first place.
