10 Things That Would Kill The Walking Dead

5. Playing It Too Safe

Negan also falls into this category. The writers can't tone him, or the show itself, down. There are concerns over the amount of F-bombs dropped by the villain, and while you can perhaps understand toning that down for TV, the sheer levels of violence need to remain high. That's not blood-thirsty, it's just a fact that as soon as The Walking Dead loses its nerve and plays it safe, it will slowly begin to wither and die. There were several moments in Season 6 that could've easily ended far worse than they did, most notably Glenn's fake death. Why did that have to happen? The dumpster scene itself was great, harrowing, and genuinely shocking. NOBODY expected or wanted Glenn to depart the show at that moment but after that scene, he had to be killed. However, his horribly contrived re-entry to the show did a pretty good job of ruining Season 6A's finest storyline. The writers bent the rules to save Glenn and that's not a good thing.
