We know from both the LotR and The Hobbit movies that Elrond becomes a rather skilful and stoic man in his older years. However, the Elrond that has been presented thus far is a far cry from the battle tested warrior who tries to convince a certain young king to toss the One Ring into the fires of Mount Doom-- an event that is merely a couple of decades away.

That isn't to say that there aren't hints; the rather excellent Robert Aramayo employs the same mannerisms and cadence that Hugo Weaving did in his portrayal of the Elven Lord. So what happened to Elrond that turned him from cheerful Elven herald to such a hardened captain in such a short time? We've probably caught a glimpse of his cynicism start to fester, when he finds that Galadriel did indeed (inadvertently) bring Sauron into Middle-earth and tried to guilt trip him against finding out.

Season 2 will show more of that unease grow, no doubt. But the series has yet to go into detail about his brother Eros. The parting of their ways is depicted as a picture, but Elros chose a mortal life and passed away. It is a fate that his daughter would pass upon herself in 2000 years time. Hopefully he'll have patched things up with the Lady Galadriel by then... after all, she is his mother-in-law...
