10 Things We Already Know About The X-Files Revival
4. IDW's X-Files Season 10 Will Not Be Mined For Material
One of the cool things about a genre show is that it can easily live on in other media long after the series has gone off the air. That has been the case with Buffy The Vampire Slayer, Angel, and Fringe, all of whom continued in comic book form, and The X-Files was no exception. Along with several companion novels (some of which were actually pretty decent), The X-Files lived on in IDW's comic run of the property, including an annual, and a complete serialised season ten - in which fans learned that the Lone Gunmen, who had died on-screen in season nine's Jump The Shark, were actually alive and well, having faked their deaths. As some of the show's writers have been involved in the comics, the plot twist can be seen as somewhat official. That was a big deal for a fanbase very upset at the popular recurring characters being killed off after returning to the show following the cancellation of their brief spin-off. Those same fans quickly spoke up when The X-Files revival was announced, pointing to the comic book storyline and hoping to see the Gunmen back on screen. However, Carter has let slip that the comic book stories will not be used as part of the revival, which will consist of all new material. The Lone Gunmen and others could still come back, but don't except to see any of the stories from the IDW line played out on-screen.
