The X-Files Revival: 10 Things We Learned From 'Founder's Mutation'

9. The Pacing Has Improved

As expected, My Struggle is looking a lot like a "we have to start somewhere" episode, especially after viewing Founder's Mutation in full. The pacing is certainly improved, and though there are still a few rough spots, rather than the episode jumping from A to B to D (then Z) as My Struggle seemed to, this second outing goes A-B-C and does an adequate job filling in the blanks. In short, how the characters get to where they are, in terms connecting the pieces of the mystery especially, makes logical sense for the most part. It still feels a little rushed at the beginning, but that may be due to some hasty editing: Founder's Mutation was the fifth episode of the revival produced, so its place in the overall sequence of episodes may have been changed in post-production. Either way, this felt more like a classic X-File, and would have fit in well in seasons six or seven.
