10 Things We Learned From The X-Files Revival Premiere My Struggle

8. Tad O'Malley Is A Bit Too Much Of A Caricature

He's a 9/11 truther mixed with Bill O'Reilly and every other over-the-top talk show icon the right has to offer. And in the end, it's somewhat puzzling why Mulder is so quick to latch on to what Joel McHale's Tad O'Malley is selling. Other than, perhaps for Mulder, it's nice to be sought out again. That said, the character is far too cartoonish to really be effective, and it's one area the show could really have tweaked a little. The idea of someone in the media being a conspiracy nut, and "true believer" when it comes to UFOs isn't a bad idea, and at first, it seems like the character might fit - until not only Mulder, but O'Malley himself begins making fantastic leaps in logic, switching from aliens to America's own government orchestrating a hostile takeover of its own people, and the planet. This isn't a fault of McHale, mind you - it's just what he has been given to work with.
