10 Things We Learned From Twin Peaks: The Return Part 14
7. Chad's Been Had
Before setting off to locate Jack Rabbit's Palace, Sheriff Frank Truman and Deputies Bobby, Hawk and Andy convened in the meeting room. Frank led in Chad, and for an unsettling moment it was felt that this promised Bookhouse Boys-esque jaunt was to be underpinned with his revolting cynicism - but then Hawk withdrew his gun, Frank and Bobby put on the cuffs, and Chad - who really should have been arrested on the spot for insulting the Log Lady back in Part 4 - was arrested for the actual crimes of drug trafficking and postal interception.
At least, it was left to us to infer that Lucy's background detective work (she saw through Chad's attempts to intercept Miriam's letter) was the final exhibit of evidence required - something of a shame, given the character's broad strokes - but then, the respite from exposition was equally refreshing.
Chad was led to the cells, in which he was later joined by Naido (!) and possibly the elusive Billy (billed for now as 'Drunk') - who in a blackly comic, disturbing echo of Dougie Jones, parroted back his words, as if in a schoolyard - as his puss-covered melting face fell off.
It was more infantilisation - more thematic echoes connecting this fractured new world.
