10 Things We Want To See On The X-Files: Albuquerque

9. Stay Far, Far Away From The Mytharc

X-Files Comic
Fox

The mythology is best left to the X-Files proper, to say the least.

If The X-Files: Albuquerque is produced as billed, the show's comedic tone is unlikely to be a good fit for the dark, ominous, alien invasion storyline that drove the better part of ten or so seasons of the original show.

Somewhere around season seven, however, the mythology of the series began to get overly convoluted. Mulder became part alien himself, or at least more human than human. The Smoking Man tried to cash in on that. Then came the super soldiers in season eight, which may or may not have been a next-generation form of alien replacement, Invasion of the Body Snatchers style.

In seasons ten and eleven things became even more muddled, with the idea that the alien colonists gave up their plan to retake the Earth due to climate change. Not the most satisfying end, though whether that was even an end, or a swerve, remains to be seen (third movie anyone)?

In the meantime, one thing The X-Files: Albuquerque can do is abandon this decades-long plot point and start fresh. Some continuity in the show would be nice, as would a tie to the original series. This absolutely, positively should not be it however. No black oil, no bees, no super soldiers. No thanks.
