6. Adam Reed Came Up With the Show While Hiking Through Spain

In 2008, the show Frisky Dingo, which Adam Reed co-created with Matt Thompson, was cancelled so Reed decided to take a little break from television altogether.

He travelled to Spain and decided to hike along the famous Via de la Plata trail that stretches from the north to the south of the country, covering nearly 500 miles in length. It's safe to say that it's the type of hike that gives you a lot of time to think.

During a stop in a little town called Salamanca, Reed was sitting in a cafe and he noticed a handsome, smartly-dressed, young man approaching a table of five women and casually starting a conversation with them. That young Spaniard eventually became the inspiration for Sterling Archer.

Incidentally, Reed had some James Bond paperbacks with him that he was reading along the way, so those also influenced his thought process. The idea kind of grew from there and he ended up developing Archer into a womanizing top-secret spy.
