10 Things You Didn't Know About Archer

2. The Show Was Supposed to Be Called "Duchess"

In the 2016 book The Art of Archer, penned by Neal Holman who is the art director of the show, he says that he created the entire opening sequence with Duchess as the title and only changed it on the final day, when it was announced that Archer will be picked up for a series run.

If the word "duchess" is vaguely familiar, it's because that's Sterling's codename in the show, even though he rarely mentions it. The reason for that is that he is incredibly embarrassed by it. Why? Because it was given to him by his mother and it came from her dog. Yikes.

Even though Malory persistently claims that the name was randomly assigned by the system, it's a bit too coincidental to be the same as her beloved Afghan hound.

While the show's content and feel would probably be the same regardless of the name, it would just feel strange to call it anything other than Archer. "Duchess renewed for its thirteenth season" simply doesn't make you giddy in the same way.
