10 Things You Didn't Know About Firefly
7. Vera
One truth that remains throughout the whole of Firefly is the mistrust and disdain hired muscle Jayne Cobb has for his crew mates.
Happy to sell out any of the team at the earliest opportunity as long as the price is right, Jayne regularly keeps the bar of expectation low in terms of reliability.
The one thing that Jayne does put all of his faith in however is trusty armament Vera, the ridiculously cool looking gun that accompanies him for the most dangerous of swindles. What most people don't realise however is that Vera has had multiple owners before falling into the hands of such a cunning thief.
Vera was originally constructed as a prop in the critically acclaimed? (I know, I've never heard of it either) movie Showtime.
Serving as a vehicle for the acting talents of Al Pacino and aiming to restart the career of Eddie Murphy, it told the story of a New York police office trying to expose the level of bribery in the force. Keep an eye out while watching (which should be easy, it sounds boring) and Vera can be seen in a few scenes and described as 'the gun that should not exist', capable of firing depleted uranium shells.
Jayne would be proud.
