10 Things You Learn Rewatching Gilmore Girls

7. Rory The Anti-Heroine

Gilmore Girls
Netflix

Arguably, this is a subjective aspect of the series, but it can't be denied that several viewers, even the most die-hard fans, felt disappointed in Rory's characters development across the series when re-visiting the show.

On surface level, Rory is the person we all want to aspire to. She's hardworking, book smart, polite, with a drive to be the best in life. Her lofty goals of going to an elite college and becoming a journalist seems like she'll turn out to be really successful.

But when you re-watch her character, the cracks begin to show. Rory is actually incredibly spoilt, and socially awkward - whilst she is book smart, she lacks any common sense. Whether it was her constant cheating on Dean, not being able to take criticism for her writing, or recklessly stealing a boat, she simply wasn't a very good person.

The revival amplified her faults as she had an affair with an engaged man whilst stringing along her poor boyfriend Paul. Moreover, she struggled to get a journalist role with such little experience, whilst fulling expecting to have any job she could desire.

Creator Amy Sherman-Palladino should be commended for writing Rory's character realistically, and not as a perfect cardboard cut out.
