Noah shows an unparalleled ability to make jokes out of contemporary politics not because he's a ballsy, ignorant idiot who thinks that no topic is off-limits, but because he's a very smart person who knows how to make jokes about hot button topics whilst also making some pretty ingenious points about race, religion, and socio-economic differences and injustice. And his Daily Show appearances only go further to show that. In just five minutes of his introduction by Jon Stewart on his debut Daily Show segment, Trevor Noah managed to skewer the Western reaction to the recent Ebola outbreak, the history of AIDs on the African continent, and compared the relative states of inner-city life in America and South Africa. He also, in that short appearance, managed to show how the current state of race relations especially with regards to law enforcement in the US isn't so different as it is in his native country. Part of that's The Daily Show's amazing cadre of writers. Part of it is how finely attuned Noah is to both comic timing and also making some really astute points about the state of the world.
Tom Baker is the Comics Editor at WhatCulture! He's heard all the Doctor Who jokes, but not many about Randall and Hopkirk. He also blogs at http://communibearsilostate.wordpress.com/
