But she's about to be knocked off her pedestal! Life as the Doctor's coveted companion is hard enough at the best of times but Amy Pond's tenure became even more turbulent than most when she found herself at the centrepiece of one of the show's most confusing and headache inducing storylines of all time. To cut a very long story short, Amy first met the Doctor as a child and then waited over a decade for him to come back. Left emotionally scarred, insecure and psychologically damaged by the betrayal of her childhood raggedy man, things only got even worse for the girl who waited when her long suffering boyfriend, Rory, died repeatedly before they finally tied the knot and had a baby who was then kidnapped and raised into a psychopath killing machine. Enter River Song. It all escalated very quickly but thankfully Amy was around for a record 33 episodes (excluding mini-episodes and her brief cameo in The Time of the Doctor) which meant that her story could be given the depth and attention it deserved. And it still wasn't enough. Bad news beckons for Karen, though, because she's about to have the title ripped from her hands by her successor, Jenna Coleman. Clara's appeared in 32 episodes to date but she's sticking around for the new series which means the impossible girl is about to becoming the longest serving girl, too. You gave it a good go, though, Kaz!
