10 Thrilling TV Moments When Characters Finally Learned The Truth

9. Ned Confronts Cersei About Joffrey's Parentage (Game Of Thrones)

Technically, Ned discovers Joffrey is the product of an incestuous Lannister union in the previous episode, but it's his confrontation with Cersei which everyone remembers. If Game of Thrones was a more traditional fantasy, the villainous Cersei would have crumbled under Ned's accusation and honour and truth would have triumphed once again, but if there's anything we've learnt about Game of Thrones, it's that honour doesn't get you very far. When Ned informs Cersei that he knows Joffrey's true father is also his uncle Jaime, Cersei barely flinches and proudly admits their relationship. She ignores Ned's order to take her children and leave and instead drops the title and the tagline in a badass one-liner: "When you play the game of thrones, you win or you die". For newcomers to the series, it's the best evidence so far that Game of Thrones isn't playing by the rules.
