10 Times Doctor Who Became The Weirdest Drama On TV

2. Love & Monsters

Of course the Master's boogie'ing wasn't the weirdest thing Tennant fans had witnessed over the course of their hero's adventures. Only the previous year Davies had offered up something very strange indeed - a largely Doctor-free episode showcasing Marc Warren as Elton Pope. Fans may have thought they were watching another show entirely as Elton narrated his story, talking about his various interests, which included bopping round his room to ELO - another case of the writer's playlist coming to the rescue when he was stuck for ideas! The audience then followed Warren as he formed a band whilst working for jovial employer Victor Kennedy, played by Peter Kay. Not your typical Doctor Who plotline it's safe to assume! Naturally a monstrous presence had to come into play, and it transpired Kennedy was an Abzorbaloff, a people-eating relative of the Slitheen, sporting a hairstyle that would make Mr T feel inadequate! Elton's girlfriend was Ursula, a role fleshed out by Harry Potter star Shirley Henderson. She formed the centre of Love & Monster's most bonkers moment, rounding off the forty-five minutes in the shape of a talking paving slab. But why end the insanity there? Why not imply that, while she isn't the woman she once was, at least the fellatio is good!? More outrageous than that porno they made with the Daleks a few years back...
