10 Times Doctor Who Became The Weirdest Drama On TV

1. Kill The Moon

The prime slot in this countdown of Doctor Who's weirdest jaunts concludes with a recent entry that made some fans bark at the Moon. Just as well, as the episode in question was set up there! Aside from the fact the production team travelled all the way to Lanzarote to shoot the exteriors, only to make it look like a quarry in Stoke in the edit suite, the script is set apart by one singular, mind-expanding concept. Peter Capaldi's Doctor may have been pricklier than a hedgehog playing with a safety pin, but a hippy-trippy vibe permeated his first season, as demonstrated during In The Forest Of The Night, where trees acted to save the planet and in Kill The Moon, where... and I know you're waiting for the line... "The Moon is an egg!" Why hadn't anyone thought of this concept before? It makes perfect sense. After all, the Moon is egg-shaped! Well, no it isn't, but you could conceivably fit some sort of massive magical dragon in there. And bearing in mind they blew the majority of the budget on a free holiday, there wasn't really a need to see the thing inside in any great detail. Some writers have suggested the Moon was made of cheese. Nah - but the reason it's there honks worse than gorgonzola left in a Sontaran's armpit! What do you think? Is this a good rundown of the Doctor's strangest moments, or are there any you feel have been missed out? Be sure to let us know in the comments section!
