10 Times Doctor Who Got Way Too Dark For A Family Drama
5. Human Burgers
This writer makes no apologies for Season 22 appearing on this list and it will do so again. If ever there was a period of the show that was unsuitable for a family audience (or any audience), it is this one. Script Editor and writer Eric Saward has become increasingly disillusioned and this is reflected in his work. Worse, he had little faith in the character of the Doctor, or at least the Sixth incarnation of the Time Lord. Season 22 is a difficult and unpleasant watch. Even tales that had a moral message, such as The Two Doctors, corrupted into aliens eating rats and lusting over Peri's delicious flanks. Though the best script of Season 22, Revelation of the Daleks is entirely unsuitable for a family audience. Filled with amoral, nasty and murderous people, graphic murders and an animated corpse of a father inside a glass Dalek, the tale is totally nihilistic. To make it even more grim, Saward also has Davros solve a food crisis by turning the inhabitants of Tranquil Repose into food (they obviously had Solyent Green showing on the Necros Netflix that week). Charming.
