10 Times Doctor Who Jumped The Shark (And Nuked The Fridge)

2. The Moon Is An Egg (And Scientists Weep With Frustration)

Some people who watched Kill the Moon profess to liking the poetic imagery of the Moon being an egg. There's nothing wrong with poetic ideas but, unfortunately for this particular concept, the entire human race knows for a cast-iron fact that the Moon is, in fact, not an egg. This certitude rather pulls the rug out from under the whole eggy notion. A sizable number of people, including every viewer with even a vague smattering of scientific literacy, saw the Moon hatching and snorted in derision. If Moffat wants to have a Moon-sized egg, he should put it around another planet - for all fans know, the satellite of planet Zog could well be an egg for a giant space chicken. Sometimes, having to tie everything to Earth backfires - and this was one such case.
