10 Times Doctor Who Lied To Your Face

8. Steven Moffat Will NEVER Return To Doctor Who

Returning Doctor Who stars have varying degrees of success when denying that they're actually returning. Who can forget the imaginary Blu-Ray extras that the classic Doctors had to hastily invent when they were snapped dining together while filming The Power of the Doctor?

Or Catherine Tate's unconvincing response that she was still waiting for a phone call from RTD ahead of the 60th anniversary?

However, when it comes to lying about returning to Doctor Who, Steven Moffat really played the long game. RTD says that Moffat was one of the first people he called after agreeing to return as showrunner in 2021, meaning that Moffat spent over two years denying that he was coming back for Ncuti Gatwa's first season.

When he was officially announced as returning, Moffat's tongue-in-cheek statement was perfectly on-brand:

"I am in fact writing an episode of the new series of Doctor Who. Exactly like I said I never would."

And oh boy, did he enjoy stringing people along before the official announcement. One of his funniest responses was on BBC's Newsnight, when he responded to the question by implying how insane it would be to wake up the following morning and go to a production meeting in Cardiff.

Hilariously, Moffat was in Cardiff the next day to attend the Doctor Who concert, and almost certainly had a production meeting with RTD too!
