10 Times Donald Glover Stole The Show In Community

6. Pillow Fights (Pillows And Blankets)

Community’s rabid cult following exists for a lot of reasons, but a main one is the commitment it has to truly ridiculous premises, changing up its presentation regularly to best depict the insane ideas that Dan Harmon and the writers have come up with.

One of the best examples is the classic Pillows and Blankets episode, using a mockumentary format to depict the falling out of Troy and Abed and their subsequent campus wide pillows/blankets war. Eventual cast member Keith David provides his trademark gravitas in narration, telling the story of these tragic friends as the pursuit of blanket greatness split them apart, for a little while at least.

While Troy doesn't appear in interviews directly as the subject of the documentary, the relationship between him and Abed matters so much to Community fans and is the soul of the episode. The scene at the end where both men refuse to stop hitting each other with pillows because once it's over, so is their friendship, is devastating. It's all okay in the end, because it has to be, but for a moment, the dedication to each other is so strong that they'd fight forever so they wouldn't have to let go.

Glover in particular is incredible at trying to stay composed and strong In the heat of combat, while just wanting desperately to hold his friend again. It makes their inevitable embrace so much greater.
