It's hard to judge whether the main reason of its unique insipidness lies in its tasteless humour, or in a generic, shallow gadget/social app theme. The episode main plot is remarkably trivial and unfolds in a spectacularly unfascinating way: Fry and Bender try to outdo each other and gain a million Twitcher followers first to win Mom's prize; meanwhile her diabolical plan is to make whoever wins a tool in turning people into mindless gadget-obsessed zombies. The main disappointment arises not even from the waste of the show's format on a superficial anti-consumerist warning, but from how cleverer it had been done two years before in The Simpsons. If you haven't seen MyPods and Boomsticks, it'd be recommendable to check it out and overview Lisa's path from iPhone blind admiration to unpleasant disillusionment in the very end. And worst of all, the episode was further crippled by a totally gross brain-dead joke about... Leela's singing butt boil Susan. It's correct, it was really intended as a pun on Britain's Got Talent performer ">Susan Boyle. Hardly many people managed to wrap their heads around what it was for.
