10 Times Mad Men Became The Weirdest Drama On Television
5. That Time Everyone Did Speed
In what is probably Mad Men's weakest series, there is a glorious episode halfway through that just about justifies the relative lack of excitement elsewhere. That would be The Crash, in which one of the firm's partners, Jim Cutler, brings a doctor to the office to inject everyone with amphetamines. It's done under the auspices of generating ideas for the new Chevrolet ad campaign, but before long everybody's using it as an excuse to generally run wild. An entire weekend goes by in what feels like just hours to the crazed employees, and all kinds of mayhem ensues in the Sterling Cooper offices. Cue Roger getting rushed to the hospital, Don rifling manically through old ad campaigns in his search for the fabled 'one' and hirsute art director Stan Rizzo challenging Cutler to races through the office. Stan gets sharp instruments thrown at him, William Tell-style, and churns out dozens of useless ideas, while Don just as uselessly gabbles and ultimately collapses on the floor.
